“Apple Crumb Cake

INGREDIENTS FOR STREUSEL:

  • 1⁄4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 stick unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 1/3 cup flour

METHOD:

    • Combine sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
    • Add melted butter and stir
    • Stir in flour
    • Refrigerate until ready

 

INGREDIENTS FOR CAKE:

  • 3⁄4 stick unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 3⁄4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 1⁄4 cup flour
  • 1⁄2 tsp salt
  • 1⁄4 tsp baking soda
  • 1-2 apples chopped

 

METHOD:

  • Preheat oven to 350 &butter and flour a 9” square baking pan
  • Cream sugar and butter in a bowl
  • Add the eggs one at a time
  • Add vanilla & sour cream
  • Sift dry ingredients & add to butter mixture
  • Fold in chopped apples
  • Spoon into prepared pan
  • Top with crumbs
  • Bake for 40-50 minutes
  • Dust with powdered sugar

 

#CHEFTIPS:

  • You can substitute caramel extract for vanilla, or yogurt for sour cream.
  • Use any seasonal fruit: pears & blueberries work great!
  • Serve in my Ceramic Ramekins. They’re a great substitute for baking pans.
